Getting started with Pandora

First, you must have the Pandora2 app on your smartphone and an active Pandora account. You can easily download the app from Apple’s iTunes App Store, Blackberry App World or Google Play for Android apps. Next, like most features on the GMC IntelliLink system, you must connect your Bluetooth1-enabled device. This connection will allow the system to recognize that you have a Pandora account and app on your phone. Once this occurs, you can either click the SOURCE button on the faceplate or the radio’s touch-screen, choose the Pandora icon on your homepage screen or simply say, “Tune Pandora.” Once your device is connected, you will receive a message that Pandora is retrieving your stations.

From here, you can navigate your stations by pressing the MENU key on your touch-screen. You will see all of your previously created stations and can scroll through them with the select knob. Hit the one you want to play, and start listening to your own Pandora personalized radio station right in your vehicle.

Bookmarking

Like a particular artist you’re hearing? GMC IntelliLink4 gives you access to popular Pandora2 features that let you bookmark a song or artist to your account. Simply press the bookmark icon on the touch-screen and follow the prompts to save it, so you can learn more about it or purchase it at a later time.

Thumbs-Up/Thumbs-Down functionality

Pandora gives you a feedback option to note if you like what you’re hearing. Each bit of feedback helps further personalize that station to your individual taste. When a song is playing that you like, select the Thumbs-Up icon. The system will store the information and the icon will have a check mark on it.

If you aren’t wild about a track, simply hit the Thumbs-Down icon. This will tell Pandora that you don’t like what you’re hearing and it will add a checkmark to the icon, then skip to the next song. That song will never be played on that station again.

Using QuickMix

Because you may not know what you specifically want to listen to, or just feel like letting Pandora2 do the work, you can select QUICKMIX from the Pandora audio menu and the system will shuffle all your stations, creating a unique mix.

Is Pandora Free?

Yes, Pandora2 is free. As an added benefit in 2013, Pandora is offering commercial-free listening for music streamed directly through the IntelliLink interface.8

How can I find my bookmarks?

Bookmarks are shortcuts back to a specific artist or song. Once you add a bookmark, you will be able to access that song or artist through the Pandora2 audio menu online. Simply scroll through and find the one you’re looking for.

Why can’t I access my station list, bookmark a song, change to the next triack or use my Thumbs-Up or Thumbs-Down keys?

Safety is of the utmost importance when driving a motor vehicle. Therefore, certain features may be grayed out when the vehicle is in motion. If this happens, the buttons will turn active again upon putting the vehicle in park.

Why can’t I create a station?

Currently, the GMC IntelliLink4 system only allows you to pull in stations that you’ve already created via the web or your smartphone when it is not connected to the IntelliLink system.

Why can’t IntelliLink open Pandora on my connected iPhone?

Because the iPhone uses a specific operating system, the Pandora2 app must be activated from the phone first to acquire the necessary information.

Why are there ads on Pandora?

Ads help Pandora pay the bills. Free Pandora2 listener accounts are primarily supported by advertising to help cover the costs associated with offering a lot of great music for free. However, as an added benefit in 2013, Pandora is offering commercial-free listening for music streamed directly through the IntelliLink interface.8

Where did my album art, and Thumbs-Up or Thumbs-Down buttons go?

If you are an OnStar7 subscriber and use the service to get Turn-By-Turn directions, those directions will be displayed over top of any current screen on the right-hand side. This means, you may not have the ability to use the Thumbs-Up/Thumbs-Down icons and see some of the album art while in this mode.

You can also rate the program you’re listening to. Simply press the Thumbs-Up button if you like a piece of programming or a Thumbs-Down, if you don’t, and you’ll skip to the next piece of programming. Over time, Stitcher2 will learn your preferences and serve you up shows that Stitcher thinks you will like.

How long does it take to acquire my stations?

Depending on the quality of your connection, it may take the IntelliLink4 system about 30 seconds; once complete, you’re ready to listen to your show.

Why can’t I create a station?

Currently, the GMC IntelliLink4 system only allows you to pull in stations that you’ve already created via the web or the app.

Why can’t IntelliLink open Stitcher® on my connected iPhone®?

Because the iPhone uses a specific operating system, the Stitcher2 app must be activated from the phone first to acquire the necessary information.

What type of CDs does the IntelliLink play?

GMC IntelliLink4 can play any standard audio or MP3 CD. It cannot play three-inch CDs.

How should I care for my CD player?

The integrated CD player in the GMC IntelliLink4 system functions as any other CD player does. Because of this, do not add a label to a disc. It may get caught and in the CD player. Do not use disc lens cleaner, as it may contaminate the lens optic, damaging the player. Insert only one disc at a time. And never play damaged or scratched CDs, as they too may damage the player.

You can customize this page to help you access things quicker. Simply press the MENU button on the bottom of the homepage screen. Find SORT in the list. Restoring Settings

Sometimes when we customize things, we realize maybe it wasn’t the best layout. Touch the MENU button on the homepage screen again and find the RESTORE DEFAULT SETTINGS in the list. Select it, follow the prompts and your system will reorganize to the default icon listings.

Making favorites

GMC IntelliLink4 gives you the option to save up to 36 favorite stations. At the bottom of your source screens are 6 favorite presets. To save a station as a favorite, simply tune to that station, and press and hold the corresponding button 1-6 until a beep is heard. It’s now saved. The name of the channel or call numbers will now be displayed in the tab. You can store up to 6 pages of favorite presets. To access another favorite page, press the FAV button. You can also scroll through your favorites by pressing the SRC and toggling PREVIOUS and NEXT on your steering wheel.

Can I customize my GMC IntelliLink homepage?

Yes, GMC IntelliLink4 lets you organize the icons, so you can easily access the features you use most.

Can I change the number of icons on my GMC IntelliLink(4) homepage?

Yes, you can have up to 8 icons, but you control the amount you want to see. If you only want four shown, the other features will be removed from the page. However, no features are being deleted they will just be accessible by clicking your next homepage.

Can I have more than one homepage?

Yes, GMC IntelliLink4 gives you the ability to have multiple homepages, however, just your first one is customizable. This allows you to put everything you need at your fingertips, while features you don’t access as often will be on other pages. Each page is customizable on the Acadia.

Where did my icons go?

If you customized your homepage, you may have noticed that one or more of your icons are now no longer on the homepage. They’re not missing. GMC IntelliLink4 lets you customize your first homepage only. Any features you don’t want on the page for any reason get pushed to your other homepages, which are accessible from your homepage by hitting NEXT on your touch-screen. On Acadia models, you can select which icons you want to appear on each screen.

Getting started with climate display

Climate controls are already working when you enter your vehicle. While you can’t control the climate from the GMC IntelliLink’s4 touch-screen it does allow you to see visually all of your climate controls anytime you adjust the temperature. The temperature screen will pop up from the bottom showing you your current temperature, air flow, fan speed, fan mode and more depending on the options on your vehicle. Once you stop interacting with the knobs or buttons, the screen will disappear until the next time you adjust something.

Why won’t GMC IntelliLink let me control my climate controls from my touch screen?

Currently, GMC IntelliLink4 is set up only to display your climate controls. You still need to physically adjust the knobs or press buttons to change them.

Getting started with Gracenote Technology

Gracenote® works behind the scenes, but you determine if you want to use it or not. To access Gracenote’s Normalization, press the CONFIG button or CONFIG on the radio’s home screen. Then press RADIO SETTINGS on the touch-screen and under NORMALIZATION you can check the feature on or off. On—and Gracenote® will do its best to deliver the correct album and artist names, genres and album cover art using the information that is provided by your device. Off—and the tracks will remain with the same information you currently have on your MP3 player, USB5 drive or iPod®/iPhone®. Gracenote is not available on 2013 Acadia.

Music search by voice

Gracenote® also improves the accuracy of the GMC IntelliLink4 system’s voice-recognition capabilities for music search and navigation, letting you pinpoint bands, artists and albums with hard to pronounce names, irregular spellings and thousands of famous artist nicknames that can easily be used as voice commands to access your music. Just press the PUSH TO TALK button and say, “Play Artist ” or “Play Album” and the system will recognize it on your device and play it over the vehicle’s speakers. Gracenote is not available on 2013 Acadia.

When Gracenote® fills in missing information, does it go back on my device that way?

No, Gracenote® is technology embedded in the GMC IntelliLink4 system only, it will not fix any missing information on your MP3 player, USB5 drive or iPod®/iPhone®. However, as long as the information on your device doesn’t change, that information will be in your IntelliLink system every time you get in your vehicle. Gracenote is not available on 2013 Acadia.

Why was information on my collection not completed?

Gracenote® lets GMC IntelliLink4 fill in information for you only if NORMALIZATION is turned ON. If you still have missing information, check your radio settings to see if NORMALIZATION is set to on. New music or less popular artists or songs may not be in the database. Gracenote is not available on 2013 Acadia.

Why is there no album art for my song?

Gracenote® does its best to fill any voids in your music collection’s information. However, there are even some artists or album covers that Gracenote® may not be able to find because information was missing from your music files. In those rare instances, a USB icon of the device will be placed where the album art is usually found. Gracenote is not available on 2013 Acadia.

Why does the Gracenote logo pop up and down on my screen when a device is connected?

This is perfectly normal. Once a device is connected, Gracenote® starts working immediately to index the song list, and assign voice tags. While this process is happening, the Gracenote® logo will pop up on the screen, letting you know that the technology is working. The length of the indexing process will depend on the number of songs on your device. Gracenote is not available on 2013 Acadia.

Why couldn’t GMC IntelliLink find my artist or song?

Gracenote® assigns digital voice tags so you can access artists, albums, and genres, just by saying their name. However, some new or less popular artists may not be in the Gracenote® database. And there are times when several artists sing different versions of a song or two artists may have the same name. In this instance Gracenote® will show you list of possible matches. Select the one you want to play. Gracenote is not available on 2013 Acadia.

Getting started with enhanced voice control

Once you connect your music storage device (iPod®/iPhone®, MP3 player, or USB5 drive), you can access its songs by simply pressing PUSH TO TALK button on your steering wheel. Once you hear the beep, you’re free to say whatever command you want—“Play artist”, “Play song”, “Tune to” station, “Call” a friend and more.

See a complete list of commands below.

To activate the intellilink4 voice recognition system, press the “Push to Talk” button on the steering wheel controls, wait until after the system says, “Please say a command,” and the system beeps to begin the action. It’s the same procedure for every voice command. Voice commands generally begin in one of five ways:

  • Pair or Connect – For pairing phones
  • Call or Dial – For making phone calls
  • Play – For playing music
  • Tune – For tuning radio stations
  • Help – For assistance finding the right voice command

Voice commands are intuitive to use:

  • Yes – The system recognizes a dozen ways to say, “Yes,” including “Yup,” “Ya” and “You bet.”
  • No – The system also recognizes multiple ways to say, “No,” including “Nope,” “Wrong” and “No I did not.”
  • Call – To call someone, the most common phone commands are “Dial” or “Call” plus a phone number or contact name: “Dial 123-456-7899” or “Dial Jane Smith.”
  • Access Radios – To access or tune an AM or FM radio band, the key command is “Tune” plus the radio band: “Tune AM” or “Tune AM 950.”
  • Select Radio Station – To reach a specific radio station, say “Tune AM” plus the frequency number: “Tune AM 750.” For SiriusXM6 Radio you can say “Tune XM” and it goes to the last SiriusXM station played.
  • Select Connected Device – To select a device connected via USB cable or Bluetooth1 audio, say, “Play” plus the name of the device: “Play USB” or “Play Bluetooth audio.”
  • Play Music on a USB-connected Device – Say the name of the artist, the name of the album or the genre name:

    – “Play Bruce Springsteen”
    – “Play Born in the USA”
    – “Play Rock”

Or, to play more like what you’re listening to, say, “Play more like this.”

  • Common navigation voice commands Please note you must say “Navigation” before any of the following commands can be issued. For example, press the “Push to Talk” button on the steering wheel controls to activate voice commands, wait until the system says “Please say a command” and the system beep, then say “Navigation Address” or “Navigation Destination” to initiate the action.

    − Address or Destination
    − Intersection
− Contact (address must be stored for the contact)
    − Points of Interest
− Where am I, My Location, or Current Position

Pairing with your phone

Once you pair your Bluetooth1-enabled phone, your entire phone book can be accessed by voice. GMC IntelliLink4 features high-accuracy, enhanced voice control software that allows you to control everything with the sound of your voice. Just press the PUSH TO TALK button on your steering wheel, wait for the beep and clearly say a command, like, “Call, Amanda.” The system will find the number and dial it for you.

Why does GMC IntelliLink not understand my command?

GMC IntelliLink4 has high-accuracy enhanced voice control technology, however, there are some things that could interfere with the system understanding your command. Highway speeds, open windows and high fan speeds are just some of the possible things that could interfere with IntelliLink understanding your exact commands. Voice-recognition with background noise is extremely challenging. To remedy this, close all windows and reduce the fan speed to a minimum and retry issuing your voice command. If this still doesn’t work, it may be because you’re speaking too soon. Wait for the beep, then pause a brief second before saying your command. This gives the microphone time to open and prepare itself to receive the speech signal.

Why is GMC IntelliLink not recognizing the number I want to dial?

Because of our speech patterns sometimes we tend to run a string of numbers together, so they may not be as clear as they need to be. You can greatly increase the accuracy of the number, by slowing down and properly enunciating each number with a slight pause between digits. If this still does not work, you can switch your GMC IntelliLink4 from CONTINUOUS DIGIT MODE to DIGIT DIAL MODE, which allows you to speak each digit separately. This is the highest accuracy way of dialing via enhanced voice control.

Using the steering wheel controls

The steering wheel controls are already set up when you get in your vehicle. The steering wheel audio controls consist of the PUSH TO TALK, MUTE/END CALL, SRC with NEXT/PREVIOUS feature and volume +/- control.

To use some of the voice-activated features, you will need to pair your Bluetooth1-enabled phone, or connect your smartphone, iPod®/iPhone,® or USB drive.

Push to Talk

This button activates your GMC IntelliLink’s4 enhanced voice control capabilities. Touch it once and after the beep, say a command, like “Tune to” a station, “Dial” a contact, “Play” artist and more. This button also lets you answer calls via IntelliLink’s hands-free calling feature.

Mute/End Call

This button allows you to mute the radio from the steering wheel. Just press the button once to mute the audio, press it again to unmute. You also can use this button to end a call.

SRC

This control lets you change sources. Press the button and it calls up the source menu at the bottom of your touch screen. Press SRC button again to highlight the source you want to listen to. You can also cycle through your radio presets. After saving your favorite XM/AM/FM stations into the system, you can access them without ever having to touch your screen again. Simply press the FAV button to open your favorite list, then scroll through your favorite stations. Press SRC to access the next page and scroll through your favorites until you find the station you’re looking for.

Volume Control

These buttons let you adjust the volume from the steering wheel.

How do I change sources via my steering wheel controls?

GMC IntelliLink4 lets you control almost the entire system from your steering wheel. To change sources from USB5 to SiriusXM6 for example, simply press the SRC button down until you reach your desired source.

Why does toggling the button previous and next, not change my source?

The SRC button is the button that changes your source. Although you are toggling it up and down for previous and next stations, only pressing it can change your source. Toggling it up and down will move it to the next or previous favorite station on your favorite station list.

How can I interact with my OnStar when my phone is paired?

Pressing the Push to Talk button while a phone is paired will default to your paired phone rather than OnStar7. However, you can still access an OnStar advisor by pressing the blue OnStar button on the mirror.

IntelliLink4 supports AVRCP 1.3 profile. This allows you to pair your Bluetooth1-enabled device and see all of your song information on your GMC IntelliLink screen. However, certain devices, like iPod®/iPhone® utilize AVRCP 1.0 and while the music will play over the speakers, information about the current song playing is unable to transfer.

Getting started

To access your music, you must first connect your music storage device (iPod®/iPhone®, smartphone, MP3 player or USB5 Drive) to the GMC IntelliLink4 system through your USB port located in the center console. Once the storage device has been connected, IntelliLink will index all of the music on your device. You can also connect and play music off any iPad®, Android tablet, phone or any other device that can store music and act as a USB drive.
