I recently experienced the GMC Terrain small SUV for a handful of days to test how it would accommodate my work life and gear, and the daily adventures wIth kids in tow.

As soon as the keys were in hand, I was able to quickly connect my phone via Bluetooth so that calls were painless and my phone could be stowed.

I was headed off on the highway to my shop to grab a few furniture pieces for a home that was recently completed. One of the first features I quickly noticed was the Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, which is available on Terrain SLT. This system uses a camera sensor to detect left and right lane markings. If you start to unintentionally drive over a detected lane marking without using your turn signal, the vehicle will provide gentle steering wheel turns to help you stay in your lane and warning alerts, if necessary.

Sure enough, I could feel the steering wheel gently make small corrections if I started to get close to the center line. The indicator on the instrument panel would stay green unless it sensed I was moving close to a lane marker, then it would change to yellow. This feature is beyond amazing. With everything that we have to face while driving, it’s nice knowing that there are also some advanced, active safety features in place.

I arrived at my shop to quickly load my items before heading to pick up kids. Loading up a few furniture pieces was a total breeze. I was able to use the keyless remote to open the back of the Terrain and easily lay down the back seats to make more space for my pieces.

A huge update for the all new Terrain is the Electronic Precision Shift. This is an advanced button and switch transmission that opens up the center storage unit. The center console has more room, along with the storage trays and the cup holders. They are both the same size, instead of large and small, which means no one is fighting for what size holder their cup is going in.

The available Traction Select System is a huge bonus. It allows you to make real time changes on drive modes. You are able to switch maximize traction in one quick twist, which is just pretty darn cool.

I quickly unloaded my items into the newly constructed home, made a few work stops at an adjoining neighborhood and it was time to off head to the carpool lane.

I picked up my 15-year-old and asked him to sit in the back to check out the space. At first he wasn’t too thrilled, but quickly perked up once he looked up and noticed the gorgeous view above. Every family member wants a new Terrain because of the massive available sunroof.

I was very impressed by the sunroof, but equally impressed with the amount of leg space and overall room he had in the back. This SUV is definitely meant for awesome road trips!
