Complimentary OnStar Crisis Assist available to all GMC owners with active OnStar service who have been impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma to facilitate emergency assistance and other resources.

In times of emergency – especially when facing extremely dangerous weather like a tornado or hurricane – communication is critical. GMC owners can leverage the capabilities of OnStar – including its Crisis Assist service – to find the help they may need in the wake of a powerful storm.

“Our team actively works to help manage any crisis – especially ones in the wake of these storms -- for our OnStar customers, or anyone else who’s able to get to someone with an OnStar-equipped vehicle,” said Catherine Bishop, Global Emergency Services manager at OnStar. “Whether it’s addressing an emergency, providing evacuation routes, helping find an available shelter or a hotel -- whatever the case may be – we’re prepared to lend a hand.”

OnStar Crisis Assist, which connects GMC owners to a specially-trained advisor, is available to all OnStar members when life-threatening disasters or severe weather strikes, regardless of service plan. Complimentary access to Crisis Assist1 is currently available to all GMC owners who are being impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma in the affected areas of Texas, Louisiana and Florida.

Since Harvey made landfall late August, OnStar has fielded over 75,000 calls and requests from customers in the areas affected by the storms. In addition to calls from members, OnStar contact centers are helping to support the American Red Cross with its unusually high call volume due to these storms.

While it’s important to take steps to properly prepare for dangerous weather (some tips for hurricane preparation can be found here), OnStar advisors can provide assistance when navigating the aftermath, including the following:

  • Connect with emergency first responders: Traditional emergency call centers can quickly be overwhelmed with call volumes after a dangerous storm. OnStar can provide a direct, alternate means of connecting with emergency responders and requesting aid.
  • Good Samaritan Calls: Likewise, you can use OnStar to reach first responders in order to help others in need of assistance.
  • Evacuation guidance: OnStar advisors can help you find the best available routes out of an area impacted by severe weather.
  • Seek shelter: OnStar can also help you locate available shelter facilities, hotels, or other alternative appointments, if needed.
  • Communicate with friends and family: if others are concerned for your location and well-being, OnStar advisors can help you connect with them.
