SIERRA 1500 DENALI: TRUCK TREND’S 2016 PICKUP TRUCK OF THE YEAR
Sierra Denali’s bold looks, tailored appointments and confident capability helped it win this year’s title.
Bold presence. Tailored cabin. Precision-engineered powertrain. Confident capability. These elements are hallmarks of the new 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali – and they’re the reasons why TRUCK TREND Magazine named the Sierra Denali the 2016 TRUCK TREND Pickup Truck Of The Year.
That verdict was reached after the Sierra Denali, along with six other finalists, were subjected to a grueling week-long test that spanned over 1,100 miles. TRUCK TREND editors put each truck through their paces in a variety of tests that evaluated how each truck handled a number of different tasks, including towing, hauling, highway cruising, and even off-road driving.
“Truck Trend’s Pickup Truck of the Year award is not a popularity contest,” says Sean P. Holman, content director for TEN: The Enthusiast Network’s Truck and Off-Road Group. “It is a data-driven test by truck enthusiasts who drive and evaluate trucks every day, bringing to the test expertise in different truck disciplines.”
Ultimately, the Sierra 1500 Denali’s refinement, functionality, and confident capability helped it stand out from the crowd. TRUCK TREND editors cited Sierra Denali’s elevated craftsmanship, advanced connectivity (including standard OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi), and performance (especially that of the available 420-hp, 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 engine) as factors that weighed heavily in their decision.
“GMC set out to produce the definition of a luxury pickup truck, and its Sierra Denali has certainly hit that mark,” says TRUCK TREND Editor Jason Gonderman. “By combining a finely appointed interior with a world-class drivetrain and 21st-century technology, GMC has taken the full-size truck to the next level. Our test is hard on both man and machine, and the fact that the Sierra Denali took on each grueling challenge with relative ease consistently impressed our panel of experts.”
“The Sierra Denali represents the pinnacle of our professional-grade pickup lineup,” says Duncan Aldred, president of GMC, “but as this accolade from TRUCK TREND shows, it’s also the pinnacle of what an upscale pickup truck can be.”
