Sierra Hybrid is America's first full-size pickup with a two-mode hybrid propulsion system,* a patented hybrid technology that optimizes fuel economy for various driving conditions.**
A sophisticated control module in the two-mode hybrid system helps determine the amount of power or torque that's required at a given moment and seamlessly selects the appropriate operating mode. The result is a 40% increase in city fuel economy when compared to the conventional engine.**

A 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS), an advanced Electronically Variable Transmission (EVT) and a regenerative braking system all supplement Sierra Hybrid's powerful 332 horsepower 6.0L V8 engine.

The 300 - volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System allows the Sierra to operate at up to 30 miles per hour in electric-only mode. And GM's innovative two-mode hybrid transmission adds supplemental power from two 60kW electric motors housed inside it.

Sierra Hybrid reduces fuel consumption in stop-and-go traffic by shutting off the engine and operating on electric power alone.
In stop-and-go traffic, the two-mode hybrid system ingeniously saves fuel by shutting off the engine and operating on electric power alone. During normal stops, regenerative braking uses the motors in the hybrid transmission as generators to decelerate the vehicle by applying resistance in the motors rather than brake friction. At the same time, the motors are capturing that energy as electricity in the 300-volt battery pack. This electricity is available for the next acceleration cycle.

Located in the upper left-hand corner of the instrument panel, the fuel efficiency gauge features an arrow that swings to the left or the right to indicate fuel efficiency.
Sierra Hybrid's fuel efficiency gauge provides feedback on how efficiently the vehicle is being driven, based on factors like the instantaneous rate of acceleration and deceleration. If the gauge needle is in the 12 o'clock position, the hybrid system is performing at peak level.
