The GMC HUMMER EV SUV and The HUMMER EV Pickup Truck Parked Off-Road as the Sunsets

INTRODUCING KING CRAB MODE ON GMC HUMMER EV

The first-ever King Crab®* capability allows for HUMMER EV to have the best of both worlds: enhanced rear wheel steering and impressive real-world maneuverability. King Crab, when engaged, allows HUMMER EV to turn the rear wheels two times more than the front wheels (up to 10 degrees), assisting in navigating tight trails off road.

You can activate King Crab mode when your HUMMER EV SUV or Pickup is at a crawl speed (up to 1.2 mph) and use it at speeds up to 25 mph.

HOW TO GET THE KING CRAB MODE UPDATE

King Crab is available now on 2026 HUMMER EVs, and if you own a 2022–2025 GMC HUMMER EV, it will be available later this year as a software update.*

If you own a 2024–2025 GMC HUMMER EV, it will be available as an over-the-air (OTA) software update. You’ll receive a notification in your vehicle and your available myGMC mobile app* once the update is available for installation.  View our support video for more information on how to install the update.

If you own a 2022–2023 GMC HUMMER EV, you may need to get the update installed at the dealership. Contact your GMC EV dealer for more information.

If you have a 2022-2025 GMC HUMMER EV SUV or Pickup, and have successfully installed the King Crab software update, you’ll see an icon of a crab with a crown appear in the Driver Information Center when you press and hold the right side of your Driver Mode Control dial. (The icon on your Driver Mode Control dial will look different.)

Without the King Crab update, you’ll continue to see the CrabWalk®* icon in your Driver Information Center.
