HOW TO USE PROACTIVE ALERTS
Here are instructions on how to enroll in Proactive Alerts, which monitors certain key vehicle systems while the vehicle is on to predict potential issues. If a potential issue is detected, you’ll receive an alert based on your preferred method. Refer to your vehicle information to see how your vehicle is equipped and for specific instructions.
USING PROACTIVE ALERTS
To receive Proactive Alerts, you need to enroll in the service and choose to receive alerts by phone or email. You may have done this at the dealership, but if you haven’t, then follow the steps below to enroll.
Getting started
1. Log into your GM Account online or in the vehicle mobile
2. Navigate to the Vehicle Overview page, scroll down and select Notification Settings.
3. Then, look for the Vehicle Diagnostics section under Communication Preferences.
4. Within the vehicle diagnostic sections, you'll see the option to toggle Proactive Alerts on for email and/or text. Choose the notification method(s) that works best for you.
- Text message alert: With this option, you’ll receive a text message when an alert is triggered. Standard text messaging rates may apply.
- Email alert: With this option, alerts will be delivered to the email address on file in your GM Account. These real-time emails will be delivered in addition to the regular monthly diagnostics emails.
5. After enrolling, you’ll receive a confirmation text or email confirming you’ve successfully signed up.
Monthly diagnostics reports and more
- You’ll also receive an email each month with a summary of the health of key vehicle systems, even when no issues are detected. It includes mileage-based maintenance recommendations, such as tire rotation or spark plug replacement.
- This information is also available in your GM Account.
- For some issues, you may receive an alert without noticing anything seems wrong with your vehicle at the time.
- In addition to the predictive Proactive Alerts, you may also receive real-time alerts when other Diagnostic Alerts are triggered, such as a “Service Engine” indicator light appearing in your vehicle.
- If an alert is triggered and you don’t take your vehicle in for service to resolve the issue, if recommended, you may receive additional reminders about the issue.
- Proactive Alerts technology was developed using the vehicle’s original parts. If you’ve installed non-GM components on your vehicle, you may experience false alerts.
