The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks offer a Crew Cab option across all trims – Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate. A Double Cab option is available on the Pro, SLE and Elevation trims. A Regular Cab option is only available on the Pro trim.

While electric vehicles do not use gasoline for propulsion, the EPA does report miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) ratings to help consumers compare them to internal combustion engine (ICE) fuel economy ratings.

These ratings can be found on fueleconomy.gov and depend on various factors, including engine and driveline type.

In general, full-size pickup trucks offer larger engines, as well as higher towing capacities and payload ratings when compared to mid-size trucks. Full-size trucks may not always be visibly larger than mid-size trucks, depending on the trim, engine or options.

GMC no longer offers an Extended Cab, but the 2026 Sierra 1500 pickup trucks are available in Crew Cab and Double Cab configurations. Some Extended Cab models offered rear hinge doors to access their back seats, but Crew Cabs and Double Cabs offer four doors.

While all three configurations historically offered a second row, Crew Cabs generally offer more space in the second row. For example, the second-row legroom for a 2026 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab is 43.40" compared to 35.24" for a Double Cab.

The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks are capable of towing up to 13,300 lbs.* when equipped with a Double Cab 2WD standard bed, available Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel engine, available Max Trailering Package and 20" wheels and tires. 

Here are the max available payloads for each bed and cab configuration of the 2026 Sierra 1500, but keep in mind that the base payload varies by additional factors, including optional equipment, accessories, engine, drive type (2WD vs. 4WD) and whether the suspension is lifted.

• Short bed Crew Cab: up to 2,020 lbs.*
• Standard bed Crew Cab: up to 1,950 lbs.*
• Standard bed Double Cab: up to 2,040 lbs.* 
• Standard bed Regular Cab: up to 2,230 lbs.* 
• Long bed Regular Cab: up to 2,230 lbs.*

For conventional trailers with ball-mounted hitches, proper tongue weight is roughly 10 to 15 percent of the total loaded trailer weight.

For instance, if a 2,000-pound conventional trailer is loaded with 1,000 pounds of cargo, the proper tongue weight of the loaded trailer should be between 300 and 450 pounds, or 10–15 percent of the loaded 3,000-pound total.

Additionally, some restrictions may apply to the design of the hitch itself. For instance, Sierra 1500 pickup truck models towing trailer weights greater than 7,000 pounds should move from a weight-carrying hitch to a weight-distributing hitch. 

For gooseneck and fifth wheel trailers, which are designed to handle larger loads, proper tongue weight is between 15 and 25 percent of the loaded trailer weight. 

You should never exceed the maximum tongue weight listed on the Trailering Information sticker in the doorframe. Consult your Owner’s Manual or dealership for more detailed information. 

Yes, the 2026 Sierra 1500 Double Cab 2WD pickup trucks are capable of towing fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailers of up to 9,900 lbs.* when properly equipped with standard bed, available 5.3L V8 gas engine, available Max Trailering package and customer-installed fifth wheel or gooseneck hitch. Consult your Owner’s Manual or dealership for more detailed information.

Some important features to look for in an off-roading truck are underbody protection, approach and departure angles, ground clearance, and locking differentials to help keep traction. Off-road tires and off-road suspension are also important.

The 2026 Sierra 1500 AT4 and AT4X trims are designed with these special off-road performance specs in mind. Some highlights include:

• Factory-installed 2" suspension lift
• Underbody skid plates
• Rancho monotube shock absorbers on AT4 or Multimatic DSSV dampers on AT4X
• Automatic locking rear differential on AT4 and exclusive front and rear electronic locking differentials on AT4X

Sierra 1500 AT4 comes equipped with many standard off-road features, including off-road suspension and Rancho monotube shocks, underbody skid plates and 20" wheels with All-terrain tires or available 33" off-road MT tires.

Other off-road accessories, such as roll bars, snorkels, suspension upgrade systems and additional underbody protection are available for purchase on the GMC Accessories website and at participating dealerships.

While both trims are equipped with many off-road features, AT4X is equipped with higher-level features for a more heightened off-roading experience, such as front and rear electronic locking differentials. Terrain Mode is a selectable drive mode on 2026 Sierra 1500 4WD models equipped with a single-speed transfer case. Terrain Mode mimics the characteristics of four-wheel drive low without the torque capabilities. It’s used for finer control during low speed, off-road driving. Use when:

• Traveling on very rough roads at very low speeds, such as a two-track or heavily rutted road
• Traveling slowly in grassy fields
• Pulling a boat out of the water on a trailer
• Public off-road recreational driving

Yes, Hill Descent Control is an available feature on the GMC Sierra 1500. It is an antilock braking feature engineered to help provide a smooth, controlled descent on steep grades.

If you add a GMC factory-approved lift kit and have it installed at an authorized GMC dealership, it generally will not void your limited warranty.*

The same is generally true for tires. You’ll want to follow the GMC-recommended size in your Owner’s Manual or consult your local dealership to make sure replacement tires do not void the warranty. You cannot put 35-inch tires on a Sierra 1500.
