How to Use the iHeartRadio In-Vehicle App

The iHeartRadio in-vehicle app features thousands of live AM and FM radio stations broadcasting near you and from cities across the country as well as music stations based on your favorite artists, expert-curated playlists perfect for any listening occasion, and popular podcasts from creators like the NFL, ESPN, NPR, Stuff You Should Know, The New York Times, and many more. iHeartRadio is available for no additional charge, but an account may be required, depending on your vehicle. is free and you do not need to set up an account to use the app in your vehicle. Vehicles with an eligible OnStar® plan can download the app and access it through their compatible infotainment systems.


HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND USE THE iHEARTRADIO IN-VEHICLE APP

  1. To get started, download the iHeartRadio in-vehicle app by opening the Apps icon on your vehicle’s infotainment system or logging into the Google Play Store and selecting the iHeartRadio icon.
  2. Launch the app by tapping the iHeartRadio icon on your vehicle’s center display.
  3. Once you open the app, accept the iHeartRadio Terms and Conditions to continue.
  4. You can log in with your iHeartRadio username and password or sign up for an account at no additional charge.

SCREEN CONTROLS 

When you open the iHeartRadio in-vehicle app you’ll see four tabs. These tabs will help you play and navigate content.

Here’s what each tab does:

NOW PLAYING shows you what’s currently playing on the app. You can start and stop content as well as follow stations, playlists and podcasts with the heart icon. For radio and music, you can skip to another station or track. For podcasts, you can skip ahead or 30 seconds forward or rewind 30 seconds within a podcast. While you’re parked, you can also access the app settings from the Now Playing tab.

The “thumbs-up” icon lets you customize your iHeartRadio experience by letting the app know whether or not you like or dislike individual songs. The app will play more songs like the ones you recommended and fewer like the ones you thumbs-down.

RADIO provides recommended stations based on listening history and favorited or saved stations.

PODCASTS has your followed podcasts, featured and recommended podcasts, and search tools.

PLAYLISTS gives you access to your followed, popular playlists and recommended playlists. You can use search preferences to find a playlist that suits your mood.

Does my vehicle have this feature?

If you see the iHeartRadio in-vehicle app in the apps menu on your vehicle’s infotainment system, your vehicle can download the app. You can also check your vehicle’s equipment list; look for the following RPO codes, which would indicate your vehicle may be equipped: IOU, IOS, IOT, IOV, IO5, IO6.
