FAQs

How does a diesel engine work vs. a gas engine?

Diesel engines are durable and work by compressing only air to high temperatures to ignite fuel via compression ignition. Gas engines use spark plugs to ignite a compressed air-fuel mixture.

What is a turbo engine?

A turbo engine uses a device called a turbocharger to force more air into an engine’s combustion chamber to increase power without increasing engine size. GMC offers three turbocharged gasoline engines. The 1.5L Turbo engine features 175 horsepower and excellent fuel efficiency* and is standard on Terrain. Standard on Acadia, the 2.5L Turbo engine offers up to 5,000 lbs.* of max towing capacity. The TurboMax® engine delivers 310 horsepower, 430 lb.-ft. of standard torque, plus plenty of towing* capability and responsiveness on Canyon and Sierra 1500.

What is a V6 engine?

A V6 internal combustion engine is a six-cylinder piston engine with the cylinders and the cylinder banks sharing a common crankshaft arranged in a V configuration. The 4.3L V6 engine is standard on GMC Savana Cargo Van, Cutaway and Passenger Van. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, this V6 engine offers 276 horsepower and 298 lb.-ft. of torque.
