SIERRA HEAVY DUTY’S CLASS-LEADING†
TRAILER-ASSISTANCE TECHNOLOGIES CREATE SEAMLESS HITCHING AND TOWING EXPERIENCE
GMC’s Sierra Heavy Duty pickup truck is built strong, so you can get out and do more. The Sierra HD is up for the challenge when you need a truck that can handle the heavy lifting.
GMC revealed the next generation of heavy-duty power and capability, the new 2024 Sierra Heavy Duty. With the 2024 model year comes a host of new and enhanced technologies that make hitching and towing a seamless experience. Continue reading to learn more about the Sierra HD’s advanced trailering technologies and find out what professional-grade trailering is like.
CLASS-LEADING TRAILERING ASSISTANCE
The 2024 Sierra Heavy Duty offers the most trailering-assistance technologies in the HD class† thanks to the available ProGrade™ Trailering System†. The ProGrade Trailering System and the GMC HD Pro Safety† package is comprised of a suite of intelligent technologies built into the infotainment center† and designed to streamline the hitching and towing process with integrated tools that help the driver feel confident when towing.
An available enhanced, industry-first transparent trailer† that allows the driver to virtually “see through” the trailer. Using cameras mounted on the rear of the truck and the back of the trailer, it pieces together views of the area behind the truck as if the trailer were invisible. An enhanced version of this technology is coming for the 2024 model year, enabling compatibility with gooseneck and fifth-wheel trailers.
The Sierra HD will also include new GCW alerts, which warn the driver if the vehicle and trailer weight exceeds the Gross Combined Weight† rating for the vehicle. Should the weight of your truck and trailer exceed the vehicle’s capability, Google Maps™† will give you directions to the nearest weight center. The Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert† feature can provide side-mirror visual alerts for moving vehicles detected in a side blind zone extended to trailer lengths.
The Adaptive Cruise Control† feature is also enhanced, allowing the Sierra HD’s Adaptive Cruise Control to account for additional drag and increased braking distances needed when towing a trailer.
Keep tabs on your surroundings when trailering with the 2024 Sierra HD with up to 14 available camera views† including:
- Hitch View† provides a close-up view of the receiver hitch to help with alignment when connecting to a trailer.
- Bed View with Zoom & Bed Hitch Guidance† allows you to see the cargo bed to help with fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitching or to briefly check on cargo.
- Rear Side View with Trailer Length Indicator† with a compatible trailer attached and a turn signal activated, this view will show a full screen down the side of the truck along with a Trailer Length Indicator to aid in lane-change maneuvers by visually showing obstructions with the trailer in adjacent lanes.
STAY IN COMMAND

In addition, the 2024 Sierra Heavy Duty offers the available In-Vehicle Trailering App† that provides a more well-rounded hitching and trailering experience. The In-Vehicle Trailering App is accessible within your infotainment center, and when paired with your myGMC Mobile App†, you’ll have access to several features including:
- Customizable trailer profiles
- Trailer statuses like available tire pressure and temperature monitoring†
- Maintenance reminders
- Step-by-step departure checklists
- Trailer light sequence tests
