GM AND VENTEC LIFE SYSTEMS WORK TOGETHER TO BOOST PRODUCTION OF VENTILATORS
General Motors and Ventec Life Systems are joining forces to enable the increased production of Ventec’s respiratory care products that will support the growing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. This effort is in cooperation with StopTheSpread.org, the nation's coordinated private sector response to COVID-19.
“We are working closely with Ventec to enable them to rapidly scale up production of their vitally important respiratory products to support our country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,” GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra said. “We will continue to explore ways to help in this time of crisis.”
Based in Bothell, Washington, Ventec will use GM’s logistics, purchasing and manufacturing expertise to build more of their critical care ventilators in response to the growing need for such devices. To support these efforts, StopTheSpread.org will continue to unite business leaders across the country that collect resources to complement and support efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19.
Since making this announcement, Ventec and GM have been working around the clock to implement plans for building more critical care ventilators. With GM’s support, Ventec is now planning exponentially higher ventilator production as fast as possible and will build ventilators for Ventec at a GM facility in Kokomo, Indiana.
“With GM’s help, Ventec will increase ventilator production,” Ventec Life Systems CEO Chris Kiple said. “By tapping their expertise, GM is enabling us to get more ventilators to more hospitals much faster. This partnership will help save lives.”
The cooperative agreement between GM and Ventec is among the latest efforts to be announced by StopTheSpread.org, which encourages the private sector to support and eliminate barriers between critical supplies and frontline health care workers.
In a written statement, StopTheSpread.org organizers said:
"We are grateful for the partnership between GM and Ventec Life Systems, which will enable Ventec to drastically scale production of critically needed respiratory care products. This is a vital step in delivering relief to our health care system, which is threatened by the spread of COVID-19. As this virus continues to endanger the lives of countless Americans, StopTheSpread.org is working to unite the business community around a common threat to our economy and our way of life. We know the strength of this effort relies on urgent coordination between the public and private sectors in order to get through this crisis.”
