HOW TO USE THE TIRE FILL ALERT

The Tire Fill Alert is a helpful feature available on most 2018 model year and newer vehicles and is designed to help make it easier to inflate tires and maintain proper tire pressure.

This system works in tandem with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System* (TPMS) to alert you when one or more of your tires needs air. When filling a low tire, the vehicle provides easy-to-follow visual cues—such as flashing turn signal lamps—and audible alerts like a horn sound to let you know exactly when the correct pressure is reached.

Learn how to use the Tire Fill Alert system on equipped GMC vehicles to help easily inflate your tires to the recommended pressure.

TIRE FILL ALERT INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Park your vehicle in a safe, level location.
  2. Ensure your vehicle is placed in Park (P) and set the parking brake firmly.
  3. Confirm the ignition is in the Accessory or On position (the Tire Pressure Monitoring System* light must be illuminated).
  4. Add air to the underinflated tire. The turn signal lamp closest to the tire will flash while air is being added.
  5. Stop adding air when the horn chirps once. The turn signal lamp will stop flashing, indicating the recommended cold tire pressure has been reached.
  6. Repeat these steps for any other underinflated tires.

NOTE: Always ensure you do not exceed the manufacturer's recommended tire pressure. Driving with overinflated tires can reduce traction, increase the risk of blowouts and cause uneven tire wear.

TIRE FILL ALERT TIPS AND TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Correcting Overinflated Tires: If a tire is overinflated by more than 5 psi, the horn will sound multiple times and the turn signal lamp will continue to flash. To correct the pressure, briefly press the center of the valve stem to release air while the turn signal is flashing. Stop when the horn sounds once.
  • System Activation Delay: If the turn signal lamp does not flash within 15 seconds after you start inflating the tire, the system is not working. You will need to use a standard manual tire pressure gauge.
  • Hazard Warning Flashers: Ensure your hazard lights are turned off. If the hazard warning flashers are on, the visual feedback for the Tire Fill Alert will not work.
  • Signal Interference: If the system does not operate due to interference, move the vehicle about 3 feet (1 meter) forward or backward and try again.
  • Tire Pressure Information: For details about your vehicle's specific tire pressure recommendations, please refer to the tire sticker on your driver-side door jamb or your vehicle Owner's Manual.

NOTE: The Tire Fill Alert system is a convenience feature and does not apply to spare tires. It is not a substitute for regular manual tire pressure checks.

Q&As

How accurate is Tire Fill Alert? Should I double-check with a tire gauge?

Tire Fill Alert is accurate to within 1 psi (7 kPa), and you can verify the tire pressure on the instrument panel once you’re back in the vehicle. You should not need an additional check with a tire gauge.

What if the turn signal doesn’t flash when I begin filling a tire?

Tire Fill Alert may not work under certain conditions. Some air compressors do not have sufficient pressure to activate the feature — this includes 12-volt “mini” air compressors. Sometimes devices can interfere with Tire Fill Alert. Try moving the vehicle about 3 feet forward or backward and try again. If it still does not work, there may be a malfunction in the horn or lamp, or the Tire Pressure Monitoring System* battery may be low.
