In times of emergency – especially when facing extremely dangerous weather like a tornado or hurricane – communication is critical. GMC offers an OnStar Crisis Assist Service for impacted GMC owners with properly equipped vehicles and an active OnStar plan.

When you push the blue OnStar button in your GMC truck or SUV, our specially trained Advisors can help by providing access to
emergency services, routing to shelters and other resources, connecting you to loved ones, and adding data for the available in-vehicle Wi-Fi Hotspot. We are ready to help our drivers during this time of need.

“Our team actively works to help manage any crisis – especially ones in the wake of these storms – for our OnStar Members, or anyone else who’s able to get to someone with an OnStar-equipped vehicle,” said Catherine Bishop, Global Emergency Services manager at OnStar. “Whether it’s addressing an emergency, providing evacuation routes, helping find an available shelter or a hotel – whatever the case may be – we’re prepared to lend a hand.”

While it’s important to take steps to properly prepare for dangerous weather (some tips for hurricane preparation can be found here), OnStar Advisors can provide assistance when navigating the aftermath. Pushing the blue OnStar button allows drivers to connect to OnStar Advisors, who can assist with the following:

  • Connecting with emergency first responders: Traditional emergency call centers can quickly be overwhelmed with call volumes after a dangerous storm. OnStar can provide a direct, alternate means of connecting with emergency responders and requesting aid.
  • Good Samaritan Calls: Likewise, you can use OnStar to reach first responders to help others in need of assistance.
  • Evacuation guidance: OnStar Advisors can help you find the best available routes out of an area impacted by severe weather or provide routing away from danger.
  • Seek shelter: OnStar can also help you locate available shelter facilities, hotels, or other alternative appointments, if needed.
  • Communicate with friends, family and other loved ones: If others are concerned for your location and well-being, OnStar Advisors can help you connect with them, either by way of hands-free calling or unlimited data for in-vehicle Wi-Fi Hotspot, provided by AT&T.

Remember, OnStar Crisis Assist Advisors are available 24/7 to help members affected by severe weather. For more information, please push the blue OnStar button in your GMC vehicle, visit www.onstar.com, or call 1-888-4ONSTAR (1-888-466-7827).
